Sustainability

In the last decades, the increasing consumption of electronic devices generates an increasing volume of electronic waste each year. Since plastics and metals are the key materials of these devices, this is becoming a growing environmental and social problem.

Paper is rising as the best alternative to traditional materials for electronics: it is cheap, flexible, renewable and recyclable. This grants paper a strong potential to reduce the negative impact of e-waste.

From agricultural waste we recover cellulose, which is the most important raw material for paper. With a lot of attention to our customers’ needs and the environment, we convert this cellulose into high quality sustainable smart paper. By choosing us, you choose to give agricultural waste a second life for the production of sustainable smart paper. The majority of tour paper consists of 100% agri-waste. The amount of agri-waste replaces the amount of fibres from trees and so these trees no longer need to be specially planted, but can stay where they are to absorb CO2 and turn it into oxygen; to become regular forests again with a large diversity of life and biodiversity.

The paper and the electrical components fit in the worldwide regular paper waste streams. Although we use very small chips and sensors, they are comparable in size with a staple and are thus being filtered in the recycling process of the paper. We are continuously looking for even better production processes, including the printing of electronics, sensors and circuits. Although we already make 95% sustainable and circular products, we always aim for the very highest achievable.

Intelligence

It really depends on the application. We mostly use NFC chips, but we also run R&D tests with BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) chips or even QR codes. It is not a question of which technology we should use. The question is which problem we can solve. We try to find the best tech that fits your needs.

No.

That is the one thing that we won’t do: make the use of an app mandatory. We want any barriers to unlock the data. That why we use PWA’s (Progressive Web Apps) to give insights in the data and analytics. Because admit it. Nobody is going to download an app first, right?

Temperature, shock, humidity and tilt-sensors.

We develop on the fly, or on demand. Let us know if you are interested in a specific use-case.

Sensing

Temperature, shock, humidity and tilt-sensors.

Yes, we can.

Feel free to reach out to tell us more about your use-case. We can discuss your needs and see if we can think along with you.

You can find more information on our datasheets page.

Cnnct.cloud

Cnnct.cloud is the beating heart of the smart paper. It creates both the front-end PWA’s (Progressive Web App) for the user, and the back-end data dashboards for the client.

Tapp.online creates the paper (the hardware) whereas Cnnct.cloud is bringing the data to life (the software). The one can’t live without the other. Like Roadrunner and Coyote, basically.

No. The paper and the cloud software are integrated by design. It is the cloud software that validates, processes and visualizes the data that the paper generates. The paper cannot work without the software, and vice versa.

We validate, authenticate, process and present the data in our cloud software. Oh, and we provide advanced API services as well.

You can access the data though our dashboards on our cloud software. If you want to use the data for your own app or ERP system, you are able to use our (RESTful) API.

Paper

When crops such as rice, wheat, barley, cereals, corn, hemp, and sugar cane are processed, 80% of the plant – its stems and leaves (agricultural waste) – is left unused. Worldwide, billions of tons of agricultural waste are produced every year. Currently, most of this agricultural waste is burned.

From this agricultural waste, we recover cellulose, which is the most important raw material for paper. With lots of attention to the environment, we convert this cellulose into high quality sustainable smart paper. Agricultural waste gets a second life for the production of our paper dataloggers. The amount of agri-waste replaces fibres from trees and so these trees no longer need to be specially planted, but can stay where they are to absorb CO₂ and turn it into oxygen; to become regular forests again with a large diversity of life and biodiversity.

We like to state that our paper is applicable everywhere. But to get you started, these are concrete applications:

  • paper dataloggers
  • smart business cards
  • smart packaging
  • real-time stock monitoring
  • intelligent stickers
  • digital donation
  • tilt measuring
  • shock detection

No. We create the product from a to z, that means that we also print the design onto the paper. Afterwards, it is not possible to print the paper with your own printer.

We are able to print every sheet of paper uniquely, so feel free to reach out if you want to discuss personalized and custom-made sheets.

Yes. Whether you want your paper folded, creased, made as a sticker or die-cut into a special shape: we can do it all. Contact us with your specific needs.

Yes. There are a few restrictions with smart paper with sensors. You can find minimum/maximum sizes in the technical datasheets.

Yes, you can. In fact, this is one of the biggest advantages of the product. Extend your marketing messages and include your corporate identity on your smart paper.

The paper is certified for compostability (standard EN13432) and food safety (Regulation EC1935/2004). The paper is industrially compostable and can be recycled through regular worldwide waste paper recycling schemes.

TempSense

We add four components to the paper: chip, sensor, battery and a circuit. The chip is an IC from NXP, optimized for temperature logging. With its embedded NFC interface and direct battery connection, it supports an effective system solution with a minimal number of external components. Sensors can be easily connected to the IC, and to power the sensor, we use a high-safety, flexible and scalable Zn/MnO2 3.0 V micro-battery. To minimize the hurdles in unlocking the data, we’ve developed specific firmware that can communicate with a smartphone, without the need for an app. Just hold a smartphone next to the paper, and it will unleash the data logged.

We use near field communication (NFC) as a data-transfer protocol.

No. We want to be able to measure on the most remote areas in the world, like on the ocean or in the air. To be able to do that, we need a passive technology. The power source is integrated to power the sensor with just enough energy to be able to measure during the selected intervals. The data is stored on the chip and will be released upon interaction with the smartphone of the user.

We can measure from –30ºC up to +50ºC.

Depending on the selected bandwidth, the accuracy of the sensor is ± 0.2°C –  0.5°C.

No.

There are ± 164 data logs capacity (version 1, October 2021). Even if the battery is drained, stored memory is still accessible. Data logs will be overwritten. If data is uploaded into the cloud software Cnnct.cloud, it will be added to earlier data-sets. Thus, 164 data logs divided over X number of intervals and Y length of logs. Every last X divided over Y is stored in memory until the battery is empty.

Yes. Every label can be printed with a unique design, can be provided with a unique number (that you provide, or that we generate) and can be encoded with a interval of your choice.
